B.C. Lox & Keys offers professional residential services including but not limited to, rekeying locks, installing deadbolts, repairing or replacing old hardware and emergency lock-out service. Here are few terms to help you familiarize yourself with the industry. Rekey locks: means that we can change the pins in your existing locks so that they will work with a new, different key. If your keys have been lost, stolen or given to someone that you don't what to have access to your house anymore, this is an affordable alternative to replacing your locks. Key-Alike: means that we can key all of your locks so that they work on the same key. If you have a house with two or more doors this is a good thing to do so that you only have one key to keep up with. In order to find out if this can be done, all you have to do is take one of the keys that you have for the doors and try it in the others. If the key will go into the locks they can be keyed-alike, if they won't go into the locks then we may have to replace some of the locks to get them on the same key. Master-Keying: means making a group of locks work on one key as well as having their own individual key. You see this more often in commercial applications, however if you own rental units or if, for example, you have a basement apartment in your house this would be a good option to keep your tenants out of certain areas but you can have access to all areas. Key-by-Code: When you buy most new locks they come with a code number. If you lose your keys but have recorded this code number, we can make a key for your lock from this number. You also see this on file cabinets, desks, automobiles, etc. If you have a file cabinet or desk that you want a key made for check the face of the lock (where you stick the key in) for a key code. This is an affordable way to have keys made for locks because it reduces the labor cost and possibly eliminate the need for a technician to make a house call. B.C.
